Vance Brown named City of Gadsden’s new Fire Chief
The Gadsden Civil Service Board has appointed Vance Brown as the new Fire Chief for the City of Gadsden, with his official start date set for the end of the month. The announcement was made during the Civil Service Board meeting on Tuesday. Mayor Craig Ford expressed confidence in Brown’s leadership, highlighting the critical nature of the position and thanking both the Civil Service Board for their thorough selection process and Interim Fire Chief Derrick Sherrell for his interim leadership.
Brown, a veteran of the Gadsden Fire Department with 23 years of service, has held various roles including firefighter, driver, and commander. In his statement, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the department and pledged to build on the city administration’s progress.
This year marks a significant milestone for the Gadsden Fire Department, as it has been fully staffed for the first time in years. Recent improvements under the current administration include increased firefighter wages and new incentives for paramedics. Additionally, the department has benefited from the acquisition of new trucks and equipment. A notable project is the construction of Fire Station No. 5 at Noccalula Falls Park, part of broader renovations aimed at enhancing the facilities and services provided to the community.
