Suspect Captured After Foot Chase in Albertville
On Thursday morning, Albertville Police conducted a traffic stop on AL Highway 75 South near Old Horton Road, leading to a dramatic pursuit of an armed suspect. As officers intervened, Austin Todd Nixon, a 28-year-old passenger from Horton, fled on foot, brandishing a firearm. During the chase, Nixon fired at least one shot, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.
Assistant Chief John Amos reported that Nixon evaded capture momentarily by fleeing into a wooded area but was eventually apprehended near Oneonta Cut-Off Rd. Upon identification, officers discovered Nixon had an outstanding felony warrant for Theft of Property in the first degree. Following his arrest, he was taken into custody at the Albertville City Jail and is set to be transferred to the Marshall County Jail for formal charges.
Assistant Chief Amos praised the bravery and efficiency of the officers involved, noting, “We are extremely grateful that none of them sustained any injuries.” He also expressed gratitude toward surrounding agencies that contributed to the apprehension, including departments from Douglas, Boaz, Guntersville, and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Marshall County Drug Enforcement Unit and Albertville Fire and Rescue.
