Suspect Arrested in Gadsden Hit-and-Run Incident
Gadsden authorities announced on Thursday night that they have taken a suspect into custody following a hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian. Michael Lee Kelton, 42, from Boaz, has been charged with a felony for leaving the scene of the accident. Kelton voluntarily turned himself in at the Gadsden Police Department.
The hit-and-run occurred earlier that day when a pedestrian was struck by a black Jeep Cherokee near the intersection of Stonewall Street and Madison Avenue. The victim sustained serious injuries and was promptly airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, though reports indicate that the injuries are not life-threatening.
Police have noted that the circumstances surrounding the incident appear suspicious, prompting a thorough investigation. Community members played a crucial role by coming forward with videos and photographs of the suspect’s vehicle, aiding the police in their inquiries.
