Gadsden area boys and girls athlete of the voting for Nov. 22
The Gadsden area is gearing up for the Athlete of the Week voting, with fans encouraged to select standout boys and girls from local sports. Last week, Gaston’s Devon Green dominated the boys’ poll, earning 57% of votes thanks to a stellar basketball season start. Meanwhile, Jordyn Knight from Sardis took home the girls’ title with 50% of the vote, marking the second consecutive win for a Sardis player, beating out Plainview’s Sawyer Kate Hulgan.
Nominees for the accolade are drawn from the top athletes of the prior week, and coaches can nominate standout performers by emailing sports@gadsdentimes.com. Voting will remain open until Friday at noon, accommodating the Thanksgiving holiday, with strict guidelines that exclude email votes.
The boys’ nominees include standout performances from JB Potter of Ashville, who scored 42 points and secured 16 rebounds, and Gadsden City’s Jakobi Sharp, who also netted 42 points and reached a milestone of 1,000 career points. On the girls’ side, Albertville’s Lani Smallwood stands out with 54 points, while Spring Garden’s Ace Austin shone with 49 points and 18 rebounds, celebrating the achievement of surpassing 3,000 career points.
With so many impressive athletes in contention, fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of this week’s winners. Voting is encouraged through the provided polls.
