Gadsden approves $74 million budget for 2025
Gadsden City Council Approves Record-Breaking $74 Million Budget for Fiscal Year 2025
In a recent meeting, the Gadsden City Council unanimously approved its largest budget to date, exceeding $74 million for Fiscal Year 2025. Council President Kent Back described the budget as “aggressive,” emphasizing its importance for the city’s growth and development. The total budget of $74,402,513 is a significant increase from the previous year’s $60,250,513, with capital expenditures rising nearly $11 million to $12,032,404. This funding will support various projects, including enhancements to the city-owned Twin Bridges Golf Club, a signature baseball field at Gadsden Sports Park, and drainage improvements.
To finance these initiatives, the city’s revenue is projected to increase by nine percent, supported by strategic financial decisions, including allocating approximately $9 million from the undesignated fund to the general fund. Personnel expenses have also risen by 3.6 percent to $41 million, with operating expenses climbing to nearly $18 million. Additionally, funding has been set aside for a new city paving crew, amounting to $3 million in one-time expenses.
Mayor Ford highlighted ongoing growth within the city, noting new businesses such as Whataburger and Starbucks. He expressed gratitude to the council for their role in facilitating the budget and paving the way for future projects. The Gadsden City Council will meet again on September 24 for further discussions and updates.
