Can Alabama Expect Warmer Weather in February? Here’s the Forecast for the Last Month of Winter
As February 2025 begins, Alabama’s winter is expected to take a warmer turn, diverging from the frigid temperatures experienced in January. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center (CPC) has updated its seasonal outlook to indicate that February may be warmer than average across the state. Specifically, southeastern Alabama boasts a 60-70% likelihood of experiencing above-average temperatures, while much of the rest of the state shows probabilities ranging from 50-60%. In the northwest, there is a slightly lower chance of 40-50%.
Despite this warm forecast, there is no guarantee of consistently temperate weather, as some cold days could still occur throughout the month. In terms of precipitation, the outlook is less defined, with most areas maintaining equal chances for above or below-average rainfall, though the northwest corner does face a slightly elevated chance of above-normal precipitation.
The National Weather Service predicts upcoming temperatures that will feel more spring-like, with highs mostly in the 60s and 70s, and the possibility of surpassing 80 degrees in southern Alabama by midweek. These warming trends seem set to persist into the middle to late February, suggesting a prolonged period of above-average temperatures during this final month of winter before meteorological spring commences on March 1. While these forecasts are not certainties, they offer insights into the expected climate patterns for the coming weeks.
