Who killed Salhadine Adamou in downtown Birmingham? Police, family searching for answers
Family of Murdered Birmingham Man Continues Search for Justice
Nearly two years after the tragic murder of Salhadine Adamou, his family and investigators remain dedicated to uncovering the truth behind his death. The 22-year-old Bessemer City High School graduate was shot on July 3, 2023, in downtown Birmingham, shortly before 2:30 a.m. His family, originally from Togo, Africa, is devastated and seeking answers, with his brother Salam expressing their anguish: “Our mom cannot sleep at all because somebody took her son.”
Salhadine was a passenger in a vehicle when he was shot. He and another man managed to drive a block before stopping near a convenience store, where Salhadine was pronounced dead shortly after first responders arrived. The other victim’s injuries were not life-threatening. While the police were already in the area investigating street racing, it remains uncertain if the shooting was linked to that activity.
Salam described Salhadine as a caring individual who had begun dabbling in street racing. “He liked to help others,” Salam said, recalling their close bond growing up. “I practically raised him.” Plans for Salhadine to return to Chicago after graduation were cut short by legal troubles, which were later resolved.
With multiple accounts surrounding Salhadine’s death, the family is frustrated by the lack of cooperation from his friends present that night. “We’re practically in the dark about what really happened,” Salam lamented. The need for closure is palpable, as the family offers a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Those with leads are urged to contact Birmingham police or Crime Stoppers.
