$20 million Coosa Harbor development planned for Alabama city’s riverfront
Construction is poised to begin within the next year on a substantial mixed-use development, Coosa Harbor, along the Coosa River in Gadsden. Developer Patrick Lawler has inked a $20 million agreement with the city, as announced by Mayor Craig Ford during his recent State of the City address. Lawler, who previously led the successful City Harbor project in Guntersville—valued at $30 million—plans to replicate that success in Gadsden.
The development, which will occupy city-owned property off Rainbow Drive that has remained undeveloped for over two decades, aims to leverage the riverfront for significant tax revenue through commercial undertakings. Notably, the project will include a variety of restaurants, condominiums, and a Hilton-branded hotel with approximately 90 rooms, expected to generate over $950,000 in direct tax revenue annually. The design will be carried out by Chambless King Architects, aligning closely with the vibrant atmosphere of City Harbor.
Mayor Ford expressed enthusiasm and confidence in Lawler’s vision for Coosa Harbor, emphasizing its potential to enhance the quality of life in Gadsden. Lawler, citing strong local leadership as a key factor for his investment, echoed this sentiment, foreseeing a bright future for the city. With its combination of commercial and residential offerings, Coosa Harbor promises to bring a new energy and economic boost to Gadsden, marking an exciting chapter for the community.
